Is there enough parking at Hotel am Sonneck, and can I charge my electric car?
Yes, of course. There are plenty of free parking spaces right at Hotel am Sonneck. If you prefer covered parking, you can also reserve a space in our underground garage on request. Electric cars are welcome too: you can conveniently charge your car at our own charging station during your stay. The charge is simply added to your bill at check-out.

Yes – our name, meaning “sunny corner”, says it all. Hotel am Sonneck sits above Lagundo on the sunny side of Merano and Environs, with long hours of sunshine and beautiful panoramic views. Whether you are enjoying your first morning coffee, relaxing on the terrace or unwinding after a day in the mountains, this is a lovely place to soak up the sun. When is the best time for a holiday at Sonneck?
The simple answer: whenever you feel like a trip to South Tyrol! Merano and Environs bursts into bloom in spring, while warm summer days invite you to walk, cycle and explore. Autumn around Lagundo and Merano is particularly beautiful, with mild temperatures and colourful vineyards. Winter has its own appeal too: crisp mountain air, plenty of peace and Merano close by make it a wonderful season for a relaxing break. Every season has its own charm – all you need to decide is when to come.
Do the rooms have a balcony?
Yes – fresh air and lovely views are part of a stay with us. Every double room has its own balcony. Depending on your room, you will look out towards the mountains or across green orchards and vineyards. We will be happy to help you find your favourite room.
Can I bring my dog?
Of course – four-legged guests are very welcome too. Just let us know when booking that your dog will be joining you. We charge € 18,00 per day, excluding food. Your dog is welcome to join you for breakfast on our sunny terrace. Please note that dogs are not allowed in the dining room, pool area or on the sunbathing lawn.
Will I find a fridge, bathrobe and other comforts in my room?
Yes, everything you need for a relaxing stay is here. Every room has a fridge, and a wellness bag and soft bathrobe will be waiting for you on arrival. For the sake of the environment, we choose not to provide disposable slippers. If you have forgotten your own, no problem – you are welcome to borrow a pair from reception.

There are plenty to choose from! Family favourites include the Rio Lagundo Forest Adventure Trail, the Haflinger Adventure Trail, Monte San Vigilio, Parcines Waterfall and the Lagundo Waalweg. Just tell us the ages of your little hikers and how far they are happy to walk, and we will be delighted to recommend the perfect route for your family.
Where can I walk with a pushchair?
There are lovely options with a pushchair too, including the Brandiswaalweg, the Sissiweg in Merano, the shores of Lake Caldaro and the Schwemmalm. Just ask us – we will suggest a route that is particularly pleasant and suitable at the time.
How do I get to the starting points of the hikes?
You can start many walks directly from the hotel. For those a little further away, simply take the bus or train. With the South Tyrol Guest Pass, travel is free. Hop on, hop off and start walking.
Which hike around Merano has the best views?
Oh, do we really have to choose just one? There are countless scenic walks around Lagundo and Merano, from gentle panoramic trails to hikes high in the Texel Group Nature Park. Tell us how far and how high you would like to go, and we will send you to one of our favourite spots.
What exactly are Waalwege?
Waalwege are paths that follow South Tyrol‘s historic irrigation channels, known as “Waale”. The lovely thing about them is that they are usually easy to walk, with little climbing, and take you right through our beautiful countryside. Perfect for anyone who would rather enjoy the scenery than count metres of ascent.
How quickly can I reach the Waalwege from Sonneck?
Very quickly! The Lagundo Waalweg is practically on our doorstep, and the Marlengo Waalweg is also within easy reach.
Simply lace up your walking shoes, set off and enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way.
When are the Waalwege in Lagundo at their most beautiful?
Spring and autumn are particularly lovely: first everything blossoms, then the landscape glows with autumn colours. The Waalwege are wonderful in summer too, especially where flowing water and shade offer a little respite from the heat.
Is Hotel am Sonneck a good base for a cycling holiday?
Absolutely! The Via Claudia Augusta cycle route is about a 3-minute bike ride from Sonneck. From there, the only question is where you would like to go today. A leisurely ride towards Val Venosta, Bolzano or Val Passiria? Hop on, pedal off and enjoy South Tyrol.
Can I hire an e-bike?
Yes! We have two e-bikes available to hire right here at Sonneck. Perfect for a spontaneous bike ride – with a little extra help along the way.
Can I take my bike on the cable cars?
That depends on the cable car. Some carry bikes, although in certain cases only at specific times. Just ask us – we will be happy to help you find out how you and your bike can reach the top.
Is the Merano area also suitable for keen cyclists?
Very much so! If you enjoy a climb, you will find plenty of steep ascents, mountain roads and challenging rides around Merano. You can take it easy here – but you certainly do not have to.
Does Sonneck have a bike workshop?
Yes – we have a small bike repair area for quick checks and minor adjustments between rides. A small repair, a bolt to tighten or tyres to check, and then it is time to get back on your bike!
Why choose Sonneck for a winter holiday?
Because everything becomes a little quieter here in winter. Clear air, plenty of sunshine, snow-covered peaks and, at last, time to switch off. After a winter day outdoors? Head to the sauna or the warm whirlpool. Just how a winter holiday should be.

Oh yes! Lagundo itself has a lovely, cosy Christmas market – small, atmospheric and full of South Tyrolean charm. For a little more bustle, Merano‘s Christmas market is just a few minutes away. Why not visit both? You can never have too much Christmas cheer.

More than you might think! Enjoy winter walks, stroll through Merano, visit the Christmas market or simply soak up the winter sunshine. And if you have nothing planned at all, that is fine too – you are on holiday, after all.

Often surprisingly mild and sunny. While the surrounding mountains wear their white winter coat, the valley often stays dry. Snow on the mountains, sunshine on your face – a combination we particularly love.
